Best AI proposal generators for freelancers in 2026

Updated 23 October 2026

Quick answer

There's no single best AI proposal generator: it depends where you bid and how much you want automated. For free drafts on any platform, use MoreGigs' free proposal generator or ChatGPT; Freelancer.com members on Plus or above get the built-in AI Bid Writer, and Upwork has Uma. To have projects found and bids sent for you, MoreGigs automates Freelancer.com, while GigRadar, Vollna and Upwex automate Upwork.

AI proposal generators compared (2026)

Here are the AI proposal writers worth knowing about in 2026, grouped by what they're best for rather than ranked from one to ten. Free options and prices are as listed on each tool's own site at the time of writing (October 2026).

How we compared these tools

We read each tool's own website and help pages in October 2026 for its features, supported platforms, free option and price. We haven't measured reply or win rates, so you won't find any here, and we'd treat such numbers with care wherever you see them.

MoreGigs is our product. It appears twice below because it does two different jobs, and we've said plainly where it isn't the right fit. Prices and features change often, so check the tool's site before you pay.

Built-in proposal AI: Freelancer.com and Upwork

If you already pay for a marketplace plan, start with the AI it gives you. Nothing to install, nothing to paste.

Freelancer.com AI Bid Writer: best built-in option on Freelancer.com

Freelancer.com members on Plus, Professional or Premier get a Write my bid button in the bidding section of each project. It fills in the proposal field from your profile and recent projects, and you can edit it before you submit. Freelancer notes that you remain responsible for what the bid says. Our Freelancer AI Bid Writer guide covers how to get better results from it, and Freelancer membership plans lists what each plan costs.

Pros: Built into the bid form; uses your profile and recent projects; no extra cost if you already have Plus or above.

Cons: Not on free or Basic accounts; it doesn't set your bid amount or delivery date; you still find projects and bid one at a time.

Uma, Upwork's AI: best built-in option on Upwork

Uma is Upwork's own AI, opened from the Uma icon in the top navigation. Upwork says it can help you brainstorm, review, analyse and write. When you write a cover letter in the proposal form, you can also select Get tips for AI suggestions. Upwork's help centre says Basic accounts get approximately 10 messages a week, while Freelancer Plus removes the limit. Some job posts may ask for a recorded video interview with Uma instead of a cover letter.

Pros: Built into Upwork, so it has context from the platform; some free use on every account; tips appear right in the proposal form.

Cons: About 10 messages a week on the free Basic plan; full access needs a paid Freelancer Plus or Agency Plus plan; Upwork only.

Best free AI proposal generator for any platform

These work wherever you found the job: Upwork, Freelancer.com, Fiverr requests, LinkedIn or a client's email.

MoreGigs free proposal generator: best free option for any platform

Paste the client's brief into our free AI proposal generator, add your name and any real experience, and it writes a tailored proposal in about 20 seconds. It opens with the client's problem, sets out your approach, answers their questions and leaves the price and timeline in brackets for you. There's also an Upwork proposal generator version.

Pros: Free with no signup; a mode for Upwork, Freelancer.com or anywhere else; only mentions experience you type in.

Cons: A daily limit per person; one proposal at a time; you fill in price and timeline and send it yourself.

ChatGPT: best general-purpose assistant

A general AI chat assistant isn't a proposal tool, but it writes good drafts if you give it the whole brief, your relevant experience and a structure to follow, such as our Freelancer proposal template. Ask for 100 to 200 words, no greeting clichés and one question for the client, then edit.

Pros: Very flexible; handles unusual jobs, other languages and follow-up messages; free plan available.

Cons: You paste the brief and your background every time; output is only as specific as your prompt; free plan has usage limits.

Proposal Genie: best low-cost writer across platforms

Proposal Genie writes proposals from the job details and your saved profile. At the time of writing it starts with 20 free generations, then costs $4.99 a month for 100 or $9.99 for 300, a little less on annual billing. Its site also mentions a 7-day trial, so check the current free offer when you sign up.

Pros: Names Upwork, Freelancer.com and Fiverr; low monthly prices; saves your skill profiles.

Cons: Paid plans cap generations (100 or 300 a month); the Chrome extension is Premium-only and for Upwork; it drafts but doesn't send.

Best AI proposal writer for Upwork drafts

These are built around Upwork and stop at the draft: you copy it, adjust it and decide whether it's worth your Connects. Weighing up the two marketplaces? See Freelancer vs Upwork.

Bidora: best free plan for Upwork drafts

Bidora (usebidora.com) writes short Upwork proposals from the job post and your imported profile, and says it checks every claim against that profile so it doesn't invent results or clients. The free plan gives 10 proposals a month with no card; Advance is $20 a month for unlimited proposals, several profiles, tone control and follow-up messages, at the time of writing.

Pros: A free plan that doesn't expire; checks claims against your profile; tracks which proposals were sent, replied to or won.

Cons: Upwork only for now; the free plan stops at 10 proposals a month; you send each one yourself.

ProposalLift: best for reusable templates and personas

ProposalLift (proposallift.com) drafts Upwork proposals from your portfolio, tone and saved templates, with an optional Chrome extension for Upwork's apply page. It says it never auto-submits or spends Connects. Hosted plans are $15 a month (Pro) or $25 (Agency) after a 14-day free trial with no card, at the time of writing.

Pros: Personas per niche, a library of templates and hooks, portfolio matching, and a live Upwork job feed; an open-source edition you can host yourself.

Cons: Upwork only; no permanent free hosted plan; hosted plans run on credits; self-hosting needs technical set-up and your own AI key.

Best for Freelancer.com automation

MoreGigs auto-bidding: best for Freelancer.com automation

MoreGigs runs on its own servers and checks new Freelancer.com projects in your skills every couple of minutes. For each good match it writes a fresh proposal from your real Freelancer profile, prices it inside the client's budget and sends the bid, paced to your Freelancer plan: on Plus (100 bids a month) that's about one new bid every 7.3 hours, and on Premier about one every 30 minutes. There's a 24-hour free trial with no card, then plans start at $19 a month for one Freelancer account. Read how Freelancer auto bidding works for the details.

Pros: Finds, filters, writes and sends, around the clock; skips likely scams, tiny budgets, crowded or stale listings and off-skill work; prices inside the client's budget.

Cons: Freelancer.com only, so no help on Upwork or Fiverr; a paid plan after the trial; how many bids it sends depends on your Freelancer membership.

Best Upwork proposal generators with auto-bidding

These go beyond drafts on Upwork. Remember that proposals sent automatically still use your Connects, so set filters carefully. See how Upwork Connects work.

Upwex: best budget Upwork browser extension

Upwex (upwex.io) is a Chrome extension plus web dashboard. It scores jobs, writes cover letters and screening answers, autofills the proposal form and offers auto-bidding. At the time of writing it has a 7-day free trial with no card, then a single Flex plan at $7.99 a month.

Pros: Low monthly price; job fit scoring inside your Upwork tab; fill the form for review or submit in one click.

Cons: Upwork only; 50 AI credits a month on the Flex plan, after which you buy more or connect your own AI key.

Vollna: best for Upwork job alerts plus automation

Vollna (vollna.com) is an Upwork job filtering and alert tool that also writes AI proposals. On its Essential ($24 a month, or $16 billed yearly) and Professional plans you submit each proposal yourself; separate Auto-Bidding plans send proposals for you around the clock. There's a 14-day free trial with no card on the non-auto plans, at the time of writing.

Pros: Detailed job filters and instant alerts; AI cover letters and screening answers; analytics on replies; choose drafts or full auto-bidding.

Cons: Upwork only; auto-bidding plans are priced by monthly proposal volume and cost more; the free trial doesn't cover Auto-Bidding.

GigRadar: best for Upwork agencies

GigRadar (gigradar.io) describes itself as an AI lead generation platform for Upwork agencies. It qualifies jobs, writes cover letters and sends proposals, and says it's independent of Upwork. Its pricing page lists Upwork's Agency Plus plan as a requirement, and it offers demos rather than a free trial. At the time of writing it's selling time-limited one-off credit packages starting at $1,697.

Pros: Fully automated bidding around the clock, plus a semi-automated mode; job alerts in Slack and Telegram; built for teams.

Cons: Needs an Upwork agency profile; no free trial; pricing is aimed at agencies rather than solo freelancers.

How to choose an AI proposal generator

  1. Start with where you bid. Most tools here are Upwork-only. On Freelancer.com your choices are the built-in AI Bid Writer, a tool that works anywhere, or MoreGigs if you want it automated.
  2. Decide between drafts and automation. If you bid a few times a week, a free drafting tool and ten minutes of editing are plenty. If you can't check for new projects often enough to bid early, automation starts to pay off.
  3. Check what it knows about you. The best output comes from tools that use your real profile and work, and don't invent experience. Whatever you use, you're responsible for every claim.
  4. Count the real cost. Add the tool's price to your marketplace plan or Connects. A cheap tool that sends weak bids wastes paid bids.
  5. Read the platform's rules. Before you let any tool act on your account, read the marketplace's terms. Freelancer.com, for example, warns against sending bids with exactly the same content on several projects.
  6. Try before you pay. Nearly every tool here has a free plan or trial. Run it on three real briefs and compare the drafts with what you'd write yourself.

How to edit AI proposals so they don't read generic

  • Rewrite the first line yourself. Name the client's actual problem in your words. It's often all a busy client reads before deciding.
  • Add one piece of real proof. A link to a similar project beats any adjective. Never let a tool invent a result or a past client.
  • Answer every question in the brief. If the client asked something, answer it directly and early.
  • Ask one specific question. It invites a reply, and replies are where projects are won.
  • Set your own price and timeline. Keep them inside the client's budget and realistic for you.
  • Cut the filler. Delete "I hope this message finds you well", "Dear Sir", "I am excited to apply" and any list of skills the job doesn't need.
  • Keep it to 100 to 200 words and read it aloud once. If it doesn't sound like you, change it until it does.
  • Never send the same text twice. Each brief is different, and identical bids are easy to spot.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI proposal generator?
It depends on where you bid and how much you want automated. For free drafts on any platform, MoreGigs' free proposal generator and ChatGPT both work. Freelancer.com members on Plus or above get the built-in AI Bid Writer, Upwork has Uma, and tools like MoreGigs (Freelancer.com) or GigRadar and Vollna (Upwork) can send bids for you.
Is there a free AI proposal generator?
Yes. MoreGigs' proposal generator is free with no signup and a daily limit, ChatGPT has a free plan with usage limits, Bidora's free plan gives 10 proposals a month, Proposal Genie starts with 20 free generations, and Upwork's Basic plan includes about 10 Uma messages a week, at the time of writing.
What is the best Upwork proposal generator?
Upwork's own assistant, Uma, is the easiest place to start. For drafts you send yourself, Bidora, ProposalLift and Proposal Genie are built for Upwork. For automation, Upwex and Vollna offer auto-bidding and GigRadar is aimed at agencies. MoreGigs' free generator also has an Upwork mode.
Does Freelancer.com have its own AI proposal writer?
Yes. Freelancer.com's AI Bid Writer is available to Plus, Professional and Premier members. You click Write my bid in the bidding section of a project and it fills in the proposal from your profile and recent projects. It doesn't set your bid amount or delivery date.
Can an AI tool send my proposals automatically?
Some can. MoreGigs finds and bids on Freelancer.com projects for you, and GigRadar, Vollna's Auto-Bidding plans and Upwex's auto-bidding send proposals on Upwork. Whatever you use, you stay responsible for what's sent from your account, so read each platform's terms first.
Will clients know my proposal was written with AI?
Generic proposals are easy to spot, whoever writes them. Rewrite the first line yourself, add one real example of your work, answer the client's questions and ask one specific question, and the proposal reads like you.
Is ChatGPT good for writing freelance proposals?
It can be, if you give it the whole brief and your real experience each time and then edit the result. Dedicated proposal tools save that setup by remembering your profile and following a proposal structure, but ChatGPT is more flexible for unusual jobs.
Is it allowed to use AI to write proposals?
Both Freelancer.com and Upwork build AI writing help into their own sites, so drafting with AI is normal. Freelancer says you remain fully responsible for your bid's content, so check every claim is true before you send it.
