Updated 23 October 2026
Freelancer.com takes 10% of fixed-price projects (or $5, whichever is more) and 10% of hourly payments, plus a withdrawal fee such as $1 for PayPal. On a $200 fixed-price project you keep $180 before withdrawing. Enter any amount below to see yours.
How Freelancer.com fees work
Freelancer.com charges freelancers a project fee on what they earn. At the time of writing it's 10% on fixed-price projects (minimum $5) and 10% of each payment on hourly projects. Preferred Freelancer Program projects carry 15%. You then pay a small fee each time you withdraw.
The full breakdown, including contest fees, upgrades and currency conversion, is in our guide to Freelancer.com fees.
Why small projects cost more
The $5 minimum means a $20 fixed-price project costs you 25% in fees, not 10%. Below $50, every project pays the full $5. That's one reason to skip tiny projects, or to bundle small tasks into one larger milestone.
Pricing your bid so you keep what you planned
Switch the calculator to “What to charge” and enter the amount you want to receive. It adds the project fee (and the withdrawal fee if you choose one) and shows the bid to place. Then check that bid sits inside the client's budget.

- When is the Freelancer.com fee charged?
- On fixed-price projects the fee is charged when you accept the project. On hourly projects it's taken as each payment is released.
- What does it cost to withdraw money from Freelancer.com?
- At the time of writing, $1 for PayPal, Skrill, a Payoneer card or Express Withdrawal, and $25 for an international wire. It's charged per withdrawal, so withdrawing less often costs less.
- How much should I bid to receive $100 on Freelancer.com?

- Yes. At the time of writing clients pay a project fee of 3% or $3, whichever is more, on top of the agreed price. It doesn't come out of your earnings.
- Does a paid membership lower the fee?
- No. Memberships give you more bids, skills and features; the 10% project fee is the same on every plan. See our guide to Freelancer membership plans.
